Thank you for choosing Taylor Made Medals – where quality meets dedication.

Having been taught to hand sew from a very young age, and from there being able to create all sorts of crafts, projects and fabric repairs, it's great to be able to bring medal sets and well-loved uniforms back to life.

Hand sewing is a real skill, one that will allow you to fix most things, regardless of fabric, as long as it is materially repairable. I was taught by my Great Aunt, Florence Gladys Cracknell. Florence was Chief Lace Maker at the great London Department Store, Swan and Edgar, from 1926 and for many years following. Flo lived in 147 Bury Street, Edmonton, for her whole life, and had the same Singer sewing machine from 1921 until her death in 1989.

Being a highly proficient hand-sewer, bobbin-lace maker and dressmaker/ seamstress was vital in the post WW1 and WW2 years of austerity, and Flo very quickly found herself in high demand.

As Servicemen (and later Servicewomen) were returning from tours and deployments, Flo would take in piece-work from Military and Garrison tailoring shops from around London and Middlesex. Never having learned to drive, she would collect garments and uniforms, by tram, underground or bus from sometimes quite long distances. It's great to be able to use a skill that, at the time, I thought I would never use on a regular basis.

My eldest daughter caught the textiles bug at a young age, becoming a highly skilled machine and hand sewer herself, able to cut and make patterns (which is many steps ahead of my dressmaking skills).

We've been medal mounting, badging and repairing uniforms for over 20 years, and we're delighted to now be doing this on a more regular basis.

We have a wide and varied customer base of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, Veterans, Reservists, Serving Officers, Ratings, SNCOs and Senior Rates from all arms of the Forces, aiming to deliver quality work at an affordable rate.
